International Queer Solidarity

Published on Monday, April 24, 2023

We are still looking for participants living in Germany to join an international youth exchange to support Ljubljana Pride, taking place in Ljubljana (Slovenia) from 12-18 June 2023!

What is the project about?

24 participants from 4 different countries will join this youth exchange. The participants are young LGBTIQ+ activists, who want to share their experience of queer activism, and want to learn about the situation of LGBTIQ+ youth in other European countries. They are interested in LGBTIQ+ advocacy and policy, and curious about the meaning of queer solidarity.

Exploring queer activism in the context of Ljubljana Pride. Building on the theme of International queer solidarity, participants will creatively explore, share practices and contribute their experiences to different topics relevant for the LGBTIQ+ community in Slovenia and Europe. They will take part in the Ljubljana Pride Festival 2023, meet artists, activists and young LGBTIQ+ people from all over Europe.

The participants of the Youth Exchange will:

Take part in creative workshops for the production of sustainable merch (upcycling, recycling, repurposing of materials…); Get to know the methodology of “decontramination” of Hate Speech in public spaces; Create their own activist materials for the Pride March (making banners, etc.); Attend the Festival panels, which will tackle different aspects of International Queer Solidarity; Attend the Pride March.

Logistics:

The accommodation will be organized in a youth hostel with shared rooms (6 people per room) and a shared bathroom, located in the center of Ljubljana. The food provided will be vegetarian/vegan by default.

A more detailed infopack will be sent once the participants have been selected.

Who can apply?

Be queer, questioning or an ally! This project is made by queer people for queer people, those who are questioning their sexual or gender identity and strong allies of the community. With this project we want to create a safer space for all of those of us who identify with being trans, inter, non-binary, lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual and queer.

People with multiple discriminations prioritized. We will prioritize applications by queers who experience other forms of discrimination as well (e.g. racism, classism, ableism). We will do our best to make the project a safer space and we will create the project based on the individual needs of the participants. We also really encourage people who haven’t travelled at all yet or haven’t travelled a lot yet to apply.

Living in Germany and be between 18 and 29! Your nationality doesn’t matter. We unfortunately cannot make exceptions here due to our funding.

Be able to participate in the whole period 12-18 June 2023! It doesn’t make sense for you to come to the project late or to leave early, as you would miss important sessions.

Where?

The project will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Costs?

There is no participation fee and the project will include accommodation, travel costs up to 320 EUR (via train) and three free meals a day. This project is funded by the European Commission through the program Erasmus+.
